In 2021, another cable car disaster took place in Piedmont, Italy. The Stresa–Mottarone cable car crashed due to the illegal deactivation of emergency brakes. This resulted in the deadliest cable car incident in Italy since the 1998 Cavalese crash. Images revealed that the cable car had been operated with disabled brakes in previous years, highlighting a pattern of negligence.
