Ex-cricketer Stuart MacGill Convicted in Drug Supply Case

Published on: 5/9/2025

Former leg-spinner Stuart MacGill was found guilty of drug supply but acquitted of involvement in a large commercial drug operation. The jury determined that while MacGill knew about a cocaine deal between his regular dealer and brother-in-law, he was unaware that a kilogram of cocaine was being exchanged. Six days later, he denied involvement to police despite admitting to introducing one individual to the other party involved. MacGill's defense argued that the key witness, who implicated MacGill, was dishonest and seeking leniency for his own drug charges.

Death Defies Genre: Exploring the Thrills and Chills of the Final Destination Franchise

The "Final Destination" franchise consists of films with a unique premise. A common element is a character who narrowly escapes a deadly disaster, only to be haunted by visions of future deaths among their surviving loved ones. They then try desperately to prevent these tragedies, leading to increasingly elaborate and gruesome scenarios. The series has expanded beyond film into comic books. "Final Destination: Sacrifice" was released alongside the DVD of "Final Destination 3," while "Final Destination: Spring Break" was published by Zenescope Entertainment in 2007. Visual effects are a notable aspect of the franchise, particularly in films like "The Final Destination" (2009) and "Final Destination 5" (2011). While drawing inspiration from slasher films, the action sequences often borrow elements from disaster and action cinema genres, as seen in "Final Destination 3's" iconic roller coaster derailment.

Archibald Prize Finalists Revealed: A Glimpse into Australian Art and Identity

The finalists for the 2025 Archibald Prize have been revealed by the Art Gallery of NSW. The winner, receiving a $100,000 prize, will be announced on May 9th. The prize is awarded to the best portrait of a person distinguished in art, letters, science or politics, painted by an Australian resident. Finalists for the Archibald, Wynne and Sulman prizes will be on display at the AGNSW from May 10th to August 17th. The Archibald Prize has historically generated controversy and conversation. Since its inception over a century ago, artists from Australia and New Zealand have used portraiture to capture the spirit of their times, reflecting personalities and issues defining their communities. The Wynne Prize celebrates diverse representations of Australian scenery through landscape painting or figure sculpture, while the Sulman Prize focuses on subject painting, genre painting, or mural projects. Elizabeth Pulie, a renowned artist, will judge the Sulman Prize in 2025. Artworks submitted for the Archibald Prize are also considered for the Packing Room Prize ($3000) and the ANZ People’s Choice Award ($5000). Due to building works at the Art Gallery of New South Wales, the size limit for artworks has been reduced. Works must not exceed 70,000 square cm (maximum dimensions 250 x 280 cm or 280 x 250 cm).
