The Grenfell Tower fire was one of the UK's worst modern disasters, occurring in June 2017. This material melted and flowed at elevated temperatures, contributing to the rapid spread of the fire. The oldest victim was 84-year-old Sheila from the 16th floor who had lived there for 34 years. Grenfell Tower was part of the Lancaster West Estate, a social housing complex with nearly 1,000 homes. The tower block was designed under a "stay put" policy in case of fire, which proved ineffective. Concerns about exposed gas pipes were raised by the Grenfell Tower Leaseholders' Association prior to the fire. Notably, Grenfell Tower lacked fire sprinklers, a common safety feature absent from many UK tower blocks.

Karun Kaladharan Nair is an Indian cricketer who plays for Vidarbha in domestic cricket and Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League. He was born on December 6, 1991, in Kerala. James Ewell Brown "Jeb" Stuart (February 6, 1833 – May 12, 1864) was a Confederate cavalry general during the American Civil War. He began his military career as a brevet second lieutenant in the U.S. Regiment of Mounted Riflemen in Texas. A statue of Stuart by Frederick Moynihan once stood on Richmond's Monument Avenue at Stuart Circle. Sheet music titled "J. E. B. Stuart and his gallant Soldiers" was also published during the Civil War.

NSW will trial average speed cameras for light vehicles following calls from road safety experts. The state is currently the only jurisdiction globally that uses average speed cameras but restricts their use to heavy vehicles. Road signs will warn drivers that average speed cameras are in operation on the trial stretches, giving them a chance to adjust their speed. Enforcement hours will remain unchanged.

The Australian government has deployed military assets to the Middle East to assist in evacuating Australian citizens from Iran and Israel. This follows the closure of airspace and the suspension of embassy operations in Tehran, with around 2,000 Australians registered for assistance in Iran and 1,200 in Israel. A new 20% student loan debt reduction will benefit 3 million Australians, removing $16 billion in HELP and other student debt. These measures reduce total HELP and other student loan debt by nearly $20 billion. The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) manages HELP debt repayments, which are added to a borrower's accumulated debt and repaid through taxes. Voluntary repayments can be made to the ATO at any time to reduce the amount owed.

A Suzuki Jimny, nicknamed "Sergeant Jim," has joined the Lake Macquarie Police District's Crime Prevention Unit. The vehicle will be used at school and community events to enhance community engagement with the NSW Police Force. Suzuki Australia provided the Jimny XL at no cost to local ratepayers as part of a sponsorship partnership. Police hope "Sergeant Jim" will act as a conversation starter and make younger people more comfortable approaching officers.
