Balochistan is the largest and least populated province of Pakistan. It is located in the southwestern region and includes the eastern slopes of the Sulaiman Range, as well as parts of the Makran, Kharan, Chagai, Pab, and Kirthar ranges. The higher highlands drain into the Indus River, while the lower highlands flow northward into swamps or southward into the Arabian Sea. Balochistan experiences dry weather with extreme continental temperatures due to its location outside the Asian monsoon's influence. The Balochistan region extends across Iran, Afghanistan, and Pakistan. Historically, Baloch tribes migrated into areas populated by sedentary communities, leading to interactions and conflicts. Administered by three countries, Balochistan has faced political disputes and insurgencies driven by separatist militants seeking independence for Baloch regions in all three countries to form "Greater Balochistan." Balochistan follows a parliamentary system of government like other Pakistani provinces. While national parties hold influence, Baloch nationalist parties like the National Party and the Balochistan National Party (Mengal) are also prominent in provincial politics.
