Israel Shelves Iran Nuclear Strike Plans Amid Rising Tensions

Israel had planned to attack Iranian nuclear sites in May but President Trump advised against it, favoring negotiations with Tehran. Israeli officials developed plans to set back Iran's nuclear program by a year or more. Iran signaled willingness to negotiate, leading to a rough consensus against military action for now. However, Israel has carried out air strikes in Iran, killing two top Iranian military leaders, including General Mohamed Bagheri and Commander Hossein Salami. Iranian state TV reported the Revolutionary Guards' headquarters in Tehran was also struck. Iran threatened retaliation against Israel and the U.S., promising a "heavy price". Sirens sounded across Israel before dawn as pre-emptive measures. The likelihood of future Israeli strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities has increased, but such attacks would minimally set back the program and wouldn't be a complete solution according to US intelligence.
