RBC Ditches Sustainable Finance Goals Amidst Scrutiny Over Claims

Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) has abandoned its sustainable finance goals due to recent changes to Canada's competition act requiring companies to substantiate their environmental claims. RBC stated that its previous methodology for measuring sustainable finance activities may not have been accurate, particularly when presented cumulatively. The bank had previously committed to facilitating C$500 billion in sustainable finance by 2025. Climate advocacy groups are urging Mark Carney, Canada's climate finance expert and head of the Financial Stability Board, to take action and improve sustainable and climate financing goals in the financial sector. Political scientist Jared Wesley notes that while some Albertans express separatist views, they often don't believe it's a realistic possibility. Canada Election Results: Close Races and Counting Delays

Polls lose weight rapidly outside campaigns (5% per day). The poll date is the last day collected unless it spanned a week during a campaign or two weeks outside one, in which case it's the start plus 7 (or 14) days. Weighting also considers sample size and track record. A maximum 50% weight is applied to any single poll. Due to high turnout, especially special and advance ballots, counting takes longer to ensure integrity checks. Witness-observed counting resumed, with preliminary results for all ridings expected today. Some ridings have clear winners by thousands of votes, while others are decided by very small margins.
