Rising Star: Ivan Demidov's Meteoric Rise in Ice Hockey

Published on: 4/8/2025

Ivan Alexeyevich Demidov, born December 10, 2005, is a Russian professional ice hockey winger for the Montreal Canadiens of the National Hockey League (NHL). During the 2022-23 Junior Hockey League (MHL) season, he led all skaters with over 1.4 points per game. He made his Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) debut with SKA Saint Petersburg at age 16 in November 2022 and participated in the KHL All-Star Game the following month. Despite limited playing time to begin the 2024–25 KHL season, Demidov was offensively solid with eight points (four goals and four assists) in his team's first ten games. After teammate Tony DeAngelo left mid-January 2025, Demidov replaced him as part of the annual league All-Star Game. Demidov is described as a dextrous puckhandler with fast wrists, using every move to improve shooting quality or create openings for distribution. His dexterity and touch make him effective both handling and distributing the puck.
