Katie Boulter received a bye into the second round and was seeded 26th at the China Open, defeating Taylor Townsend in straight sets. At the Wuhan Open, the final WTA 1000 event of the season, Boulter lost in the first round to qualifier Lesia Tsurenko. In a match against Slovakia, Boulter lost to Rebecca Šramková in three sets as Great Britain was defeated 2–1. Seeded 22nd at the Australian Open, Boulter defeated Rebecca Marino but lost to Veronika Kudermetova in the second round. Boulter's 2024 season saw her rise to a career-high ranking of No. 23 on November 4, 2024. She successfully defended her title at Nottingham (defeating Ka.) and reached the semifinals in Tokyo (losing to Kenin). The year concluded with a final run at Hong Kong (losing to champion Shnaider). Earlier in the year, she reached the second round in Acapulco (losing to Zhu) and the first round in the Australian Open (losing to Svitolina). The crash occurred around 05:00 GMT on Wednesday and involved a motorcyclist who died at the scene.
