Since the overturning of Roe v. Wade, many state legislatures have implemented new abortion restrictions and bans, while enforcing existing ones. These restrictions disproportionately affect marginalized groups. Many state laws include limited exceptions to total bans based on gestational duration. Globally, 662 million (34%) women of reproductive age live in countries that allow abortion on request, while 457 million (23%) live in countries allowing abortion on broad social or economic grounds. Conversely, 111 million (6%) women of reproductive age reside in countries where abortion is completely prohibited. In the US, post-Roe, each state now determines its own abortion policies. Various types of restrictions exist: * **Method bans:** Laws prohibiting specific abortion methods, like dilation and extraction (D&X) or dilation and evacuation (D&E). * **Telehealth Shield laws:** Protect abortion providers offering telemedicine abortion care to out-of-state residents unable to travel for the procedure.

Iran insists its nuclear program is peaceful. Israel and Iran have exchanged direct fire multiple times since the 2023 Hamas attack on southern Israel ignited the current Gaza war. To significantly weaken Iran's nuclear program, Israel would likely require U.S. assistance. The U.S. was engaged in talks with Iran about its nuclear program when Israel conducted a surprise attack last week. Israel's actions may depend on its assessment of the US-Iran negotiations. While the chance of an Israeli strike on Iranian nuclear facilities has increased, such strikes would only minimally delay Iran's program and wouldn't be a complete solution. US intelligence agencies warned in February that Israel might target key Iranian nuclear facilities this year. Israel consistently maintains that military action is the only way to halt Iran's pursuit of nuclear weapons. Most of Iran's enrichment activities are conducted underground for protection from airstrikes.

Adriana Smith, a 30-year-old nurse and mother, was declared brain dead after a medical emergency in February while nine weeks pregnant. She is now approximately 22 weeks into the pregnancy and has been on life support for over 90 days. The case raises legal questions about Georgia's abortion law. Democratic State Sen. Nabilah Islam Parkes requested clarification from Attorney General Chris Carr regarding its application. Republican State Sen. Ed Setzler, who sponsored the 2019 abortion law, stated he believes Emory University Hospital is interpreting the law correctly. Setzler argues that refusing life support after death doesn't intend to terminate a pregnancy. He cites a lack of legal precedent for cases involving prolonged life support for deceased pregnant women. Smith's family is hoping her unborn child will survive. They were initially told by doctors that Georgia law required keeping Smith on life support to preserve the pregnancy. Students for Life of America, an anti-abortion group, supports the decision to continue life support.
