New FASTag Annual Pass: Save Rs 7,000 on Toll Payments Starting August 15th

The government is introducing a FASTag-based annual pass priced at Rs 3,000 for non-commercial private vehicles starting August 15th, 2025. The pass will be valid for one year from the activation date or up to 200 trips, whichever comes first. This aims to simplify toll payments and offer cost savings compared to individual toll crossings. For instance, if an average toll is Rs 50, a traveler would pay Rs 10,000 for 200 crossings without the pass, but only Rs 3,000 with the annual pass. The government dropped a previous proposal for a lifetime FASTag costing Rs 30,000 valid for 15 years in favor of this more affordable option. The new rule aims to reduce wait times and congestion at toll plazas, making highway travel smoother and faster.

Broader policy tailwinds such as the government’s Rs 1.5 trillion worth of T&D project awards in FY25 — a fourfold jump from the previous year — support this optimism. Siemens Limited (ex-Energy) remains a “Buy” for Jefferies with a target price of Rs 3,700, driven by upside potential in its railways segment and margin expansion opportunities.
