Sacramento State's New President: Luke Wood Brings Equity Focus to the Role

J. Luke Wood is the ninth president of Sacramento State. Prior to his appointment, he was chief diversity officer and vice president for Student Affairs and Campus Diversity at San Diego State. At San Diego State, Wood co-directed the Community College Equity Assessment Lab, focused on reducing equity gaps between students of color and their peers. He also served as a lead co-sponsor of California Assembly Bill 740 through the Black Minds Matter Coalition. In 2023, he was appointed to the California Racial Equity Commission by the California State Senate. Wood's background includes experience as a former ward of the court and foster child. He earned his B.A. in Black History and Politics from California State University, Sacramento; an M.A. in Higher Education Leadership in Student Affairs from California State University, Sacramento; an M.A. in Curriculum and Instruction in Early Childhood Education from Arizona State University; and a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from Arizona State University.

Mumbra Train Accident Claims Four Lives, Leaves Nine Injured Amid Overcrowding Concerns

Four people died and nine were injured after passengers fell off two overcrowded moving trains near Mumbra railway station in Thane on Monday morning. The incident occurred around 9 am when a Kasara-bound train from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) was passing through the Diva-Mumbra area. The deceased have been identified as Ketan Saroj (23), Rahul Gupta (27), Vicky Mukhyadal (34) and Mayur Shah (44). The injured were admitted to Shivaji Hospital and Thane General Hospital. Passengers traveling on footboards in trains in opposite directions reportedly got entangled, leading to the fall. The incident has sparked calls for an independent Mumbai local administration separate from the Railway Board to improve management of the crowded train system. Commuters expressed frustration that while new trains are introduced, existing tracks are used for express mail and long-route trains, neglecting the needs of local commuters. Maharashtra CM expressed his condolences on X, stating that the injured have been admitted to hospitals for treatment.

SSC CGL Notification 2025 Released: Key Dates, Vacancies, and Exam Schedule

The SSC CGL notification for 2025 was released on June 9th, 2025. Online applications opened on the same day and will close on July 4th, 2025. The last date to make online fee payments is July 5th, 2025, at 11 pm. A window for application form correction, including online payment, will be open from July 9th to 11th, 2025, until 11 pm. Tier 1 admit cards will be released in August 2025, with the exam scheduled from August 13th to 30th, 2025. The Tier 2 exam will take place in December 2025. There are 14,582 vacancies to be filled through this recruitment process. The selection process involves two tiers: Tier 1 and Tier 2. The SSC CGL exam will be conducted across the country at various centers. Candidates can apply online only.

Overcrowding Claims Lives in Mumbai Train Accident

Eight passengers fell off an overcrowded local train near Mumbra railway station in Maharashtra. Passengers traveling on footboards in opposite directions got entangled, leading to the incident. Four commuters died after falling from a train heading to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSTM). The injured were taken to the nearest hospital. Authorities are investigating the accident. The Railway Board stated that all rakes under manufacturing for Mumbai Suburban will have automatic door closer facilities following the accident. Passengers reportedly fell around 9 am while the Kasara-bound train, which started from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), was passing through the Diva-Mumbra area. Authorities with the Central Railway confirmed that another train was passing towards the opposite side, causing the accident. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed his condolences and called the incident unfortunate.
