The original "Friday the 13th" film is the highest-grossing in the franchise, excluding international sales and the crossover with Freddy Krueger. It's credited with launching the "stalker" or slasher film subgenre. The film was shot at Camp No-Be-Bo-Sco, a real Boy Scout camp in Hardwick. The iconic theme music by Harry Manfredini is used to signal the killer's presence throughout the series. Critic Roger Ebert, while calling the film "shamelessly bad," acknowledged its entertainment value. The franchise has also spawned comic books and behind-the-scenes books.
