Sammy Sosa achieved seven All-Star selections and set numerous records while playing for the Chicago Cubs. He later hit his 600th career home run with the Texas Rangers, becoming the fifth player in MLB history to achieve that milestone. Sosa was born in the Dominican Republic on November 12, 1968, and married Sonia Rodríguez, a former Dominican TV dancer, in 1991. Sosa is known by nicknames like "Slammin' Sammy" and "Say it Ain't Sosa." In the 1999 season, he hit 63 home runs, finishing behind Mark McGwire who hit 65. Sosa played for 18 seasons and primarily played as an outfielder.

Deadly Brazilian Hot Air Balloon Fire Claims Eight Lives

At least eight people died in a hot air balloon accident in Praia Grande, Brazil. Thirteen people survived the crash. The incident occurred on Saturday morning when the balloon caught fire mid-air, causing it to fall. Two people were seen falling from the balloon before it crashed. Chief of Santa Catarina's civil police force, Ulisses Gabriel, stated that three victims died while hugging each other. This is the third hot air balloon accident in Brazil in less than a week.
